Developer Funcom is reducing the amout of Age of Conan's servers to almost a third of its original n DateTime:7/21/2009 11:56:42 AM
To account for dwindling populations in Age of Conan's 49 servers, developer Funcom is reducing the number of the game's servers to nearly a third of its original total by merging them to only 18.Although the game enjoyed impressive sales figures on launch and Funcom has previously touted an installed base of 400,000 players, this reduction in servers is a significant indication that Age of Conan has not reached the long-term online population that Funcom had expected.
The planned mergers took place and Funcom was yet to announce a specific time and date for respective downtimes at this point, although the developer did note on Age of Conan's forums that it plans to merge the US and European servers in two separate operations. The first planned merger (of US servers Bloodspire and Hyperborea) took place last week, bringing the total down to 48. Funcom now plans to repeat the process across the board in the remaining US as well as European servers.
