"Pets" in Age of Conan?

There were zombies, naked green winged women and hunched little beasts running amok. We didn't know it at the time but apparently these were not players, rather "pets" owned or summoned by players. Upgrading to level 20 and above gives you the power to have demon pets. A lot of them by the look of it.

The lobby offered us two options for PvP: Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Okay, not exactly reinventing the wheel, but our barbarian was now decked out in some decent togs and had a brutal looking sword - so we had a bash.
